Assessment of an ultra-fast portable gas chromatograph for analyzing volatile organic chemicals and essential oils in laboratory and greenhouses

Performance of a portable ultra fast gas chromatograph was assessed. In all experiments, the GC produced consistent results comparable to that of a conventional GC-MS. Our results concur with previous studies confirming an ultra fast GC as a suitable device for analyzing plant volatiles in the field and for monitoring their rapid changes.

Herbivore-induced plant volatiles allow detection of Trichoplusia ni (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) infestation on greenhouse tomato plants

Monitoring of insect populations is an important component of integrated pest management. Plants respond to insect herbivory and release herbivore-induced plant volatiles (HIPVs), which can be exploited in monitoring systems. Plant volatiles were sampled and analyzed by an ultra fast GC.
